Songs of Praise

www.bible.com/111/psa.100.2.niv

Hello friends,

I love a good sermon, but my other favorite way to worship is with song. Whether hymns or contemporary Christian music, lifting our voices to the Lord in earnestness must bring Him such happiness. I imagine Him smiling upon us as a father looks upon a beloved child.

Singing praise music is is like opening the door to Heaven as well as our hearts. It prepares us for His good Word. Once digested we meditate on it & it is always there to help guide us.

Come to the Lord in song. Feel His loving presence envelope you.

Blessings,

Debra💋

Summer Style Inspiration

Hello darlings!!

Here are a few summer style boards I created to share with you.

I love the colors of this one.

This set would look lovely on a younger woman (read: flat tummy). I would suggest a longer version of this top for anyone over 30. However, this neckline is ideal for all ages. Add a dainty necklace or earrings to accent your facial features.

The length of this skirt is perfect for a shorter woman.

👗Style Tip👗: Shorter skirts add length to short legs.

A fun bag will complete any outfit. Isn’t this one gorgeous?!

Summer neutrals keep things cool with this sweet set.

This dress is perfect to wear as is or worn as a tunic with jeans. For modesty’s sake, I would wear a camisole underneath.

👗Style Tip👗: Keep accessories to a minimum. A great pair of earrings go a long way!

Finish with a great straw bag and sandals.

This set is great for all ages.

Who can resist a dainty floral dress for summer?

The pattern of this dress is feminine and the style is perfect for a variety of body shapes.

This dress could be worn for any occasion…from graduation parties to an outing with friends.

👗Style Tip👗: Empire necklines highlight your bust so be wary if you are top heavy.

I hope these outfits inspired you. Leave me a note in the comments section below on how you would wear these!

Shabby Chic

Hello lovely!!!

I’ve been on a journey to find my true identity since my divorce. That’s not an easy feat when you’ve been married for two decades and have developed shared interests. Letting go of all you created together is painful. However, there is beauty in the hard places when you awaken to your own ideas and you find yourself excited to embrace new or beloved old pieces of yourself. For me that is my love of shabby chic. Here are some lovely ways to incorporate shabby chic into your home.

Ruffles are always a good idea!! You can buy already made curtains or create your own with vintage fabric, table cloths, or lace. Simple gather them in sections with pins to mimic the photo above. Then add floral clips, brooches, or whatever inspires you.

One really fun way to create a whimsical look is by collecting frames. You can find a variety of metal frames at your local thrift store and repaint them. Just grab some acrylic paints and brushes at a craft supply center and create your own one of a kind piece.

Search for antique wood chairs or recreate one you already have with paint and stencils to sit at your dining table or use them to display books or other treasures.

You simply can not have a shabby chic look without pretty china. Start collecting pretty tea cups or other china. I love mismatched pieces. The only rule to remember is to set a color story. Stick to one or more colors in multiple patterns.

Cozy spaces are always welcoming so create a secluded seating area with a variety of soft pillows in different shapes and sizes. Warm lighting via chandeliers or candles adds ambiance. And fresh flowers bring the outdoors inside.

My inspiration comes from the creator of the Shabby Chic, Rachel Ashwell. She posts regularly on Instagram so you can follow her there to learn more about her and get more decorating inspiration. You can also find many home decor books by her online. Search you favorite book stores!

I hope you enjoyed this post and gained some new ideas to try. Like Shabby Chic? Leave me a message in the comments section.

Cast My Cares

Hello friend!

Is there something that’s been on your heart that has left you feeling completely frazzled?

Last night I awoke at 3 am filled with anxiety and agonizing over some life choices that I need to make. (Interrupted sleep is not my typical behavior.)

I’m one of those people who needs to be in control of a situation so it’s hard for me to let go and let God take the lead, especially when you don’t know what He has in store for you.

Instead of fretting over our problems, the Bible tells us to cast our cares on our Heavenly Father who knows what we need before we even ask.

With that in mind, I started to pray. I asked God for wisdom to make the right choices. And for peace of mind.

And soon I was in a calmer state of mind. Now I have a new plan. I plan on trusting Him.

I pray this post helps strengthen you.

Love,

Debra💋

Walk In Style

Hey lovely!!

How about some style inspiration?!

My Walk in Style set features a soft floral blouse paired with light denim shorts trimmed in lace.

Perfect for a summer day of shopping or meeting up with girl friends!

👗👗👗Style Tips👗👗👗

Flowing sleeves help hide untoned or heavy upper arms.

V necks are flattering on most every body. This neckline draws the eye down thus lengthening a shorter neck. And best yet, it’s the ideal neckline for layering pretty necklaces.

Wear hair up in a ponytail or a messy bun. An instant casual chic look!!!

Style pretty my friends.

Seeing Dots!

Hey loves!!!

Spring is just around the corner and now is the time to stock up on your favorite new trends. Today we are featuring, one of my personal favorites, Polka dots!!

I find polka dots to be more classic than trendy. Do they ever really go out of style? We see them everywhere from the runways to street style.

But how do you add this “trend” to your wardrobe? I created these style boards to persuade you to look at polka dots in a new way and perhaps inspire you to try them this spring!

To create a classic look, try a black and white polka dot dress. Add a fun headband and earrings.

*Style Tip: Every woman can wear the universally flattering A line dress.

This set has a mod vibe. A sleeveless polka dot dress worn with white boots. I toughened it up with the red bag with gold rivets.

*Style Top: Halter style tops highlight toned shoulders and arms!

This style is very bohemian. These flared pants are magnificent! So perfect with a basic black body suit and a cool clutch bag to add a bit of edge.

*Style Tip: Flared legs add curves to a non curvy girl.

So how would you wear polka dots this spring? Please share in the comments section.

Tips Every Busy Girl Should Know

Hello beautiful!!!

We are all busy women…single, married with children, even grand mothers… so I put together some ideas to make life a little easier. Rest assured that each tip I share I have personally tried and use.

Let’s begin with rest. What I like to do in the evening, long before I even think of cozying under my blankets, is to choose my outfit for the next day. Check your weather forecast and choose your outfit accordingly. Iron, or better yet steam your clothing, that way everything will be nice and crisp when you put it on. Don’t forget to pick out all your accessories!

Now that all that is taken care of it’s time for some down time. I know many women who have a hard time with this. But you will feel more relaxed if you do something special for yourself… read, do yoga, listen to soothing music, or journal. Do something that you love. This is your time. I like to light flameless candles and listen to audio books. So comforting. Sweet dreams!!!

Mornings should not be filled with to do lists. Instead of stressing once your alarm sounds, why not try praying or meditating. Both of these help calm your spirit and put you in a positive frame of mind.

During the work/school day, be sure to take some calming breaths periodically. This greatly reduces stress. Or take a short walk during your lunch. Getting outside is also a good way to rejuvinate you. Nothing like fresh air and sunshine!

After work/school try to do chores right away because the longer we sit in front of the tv binge watching shows or scrolling through social media on our phones, the less likely we will complete any housework. (Anyone else guilty of this?!)

Spend more time with family and friends. It’s a great way to unwind and build lasting bonds.

Before bed, count your blessings!

Let me know what works for you or if you have any great tips please leave them in the comments section below!

Holiday Nails

Hello dear reader!!

December is upon us and it’s time to think of all those holiday festivities (and shopping!) that we anticipate throughout the year. With that in mind I spent a little quality time on Pinterest looking for some stylish nail art for you to try or take with you to your favorite nail artist.

Let’s start with the simplest way to add some holiday cheer. Glittery polish!! Loving this gorgeous white polish called Let It Bow by Essie.

If you have a steady hand, why not try one of these pretty designs.

There are decals that make nail art easy for the DIYer.

So many gorgeous colors to choose from. Go traditional or add something bold!!

I’m a texture freak so I love the idea of mixing glittered polishes with smooth polish.

Thanks to beauty supply shops like Sally’s, gems are not only affordable but easy to find!

Sometimes there is nothing prettier than a dark blue nail like the ones below sprinkled with “snow” .

Or the favorite color of the season, green!

Wrap ’em up like presents beneath the tree!!!

Whatever you chose, make your nails as festive as you are!

I myself always love a traditional red nail. These are just right to ring in the holiday season.

So Thankful

Hello dear readers,

As Thanksgiving draws near it reminds me of all I have to be thankful for.

🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁

This past year has been especially trying in my church. Our pastor retired. Then our youth minister and our praise team leader announced their resignations which left us feeling very sad.

Yet what blessings the Lord provided for us!!! We were blessed with TWO visiting pastors who became part of our church family.

🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

Our pastoral committee worked so diligently and we are looking forward to a joyous Christmas with our new pastor.

🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂I’m also thankful for good health, my family, my kitty and reconnecting with old friends. I am thankful for the gifts the Lord has given me and His Holy Son Jesus. I am blessed beyond blessed each and every day.

I wish each and every one of you a beautiful Thanksgiving! God bless you all.

Trending Now: Preppy Chic

The fall 2019 runway saw many versions of preppy chic. Plaids, houndstooth, window pane and argyle.

I remember my first encounter with preppy style. It was in the early 90s when I was attending the Art Institute for a degree in Fashion Marketing. (At that time fashion magazines were loaded with photos of Super Models wearing tartan plaids and window pane prints. And I remember this well because their glossies were wallpapering my bedroom!!)

Linda Evangelista circa 1990

I’d never known anyone who embraced preppy style. (This wasn’t my crowd.) Until I met a girl in class who wore long flowing skirts over calf length boots with turtleneck sweaters or sweaters layered over blouses. I admired her individuality.

Although the way we wear preppy chic today may appear differently, the aesthetic remains the same.

Below are some eye candy from the fall runways to inspire you.

What’s Your “Pursonality”?

There are so many styles of bags and each one represents a different type of woman. Let’s examine a few of my favorite styles.

The Tote

Tote bags are versatile. They are usually quite large and can hold a myriad of items. They are perfect for the girl on the go. This lady is always prepared. Need a bandaid? Got it! Hair brush? Got it! Flash light? Come on, she’s not Nancy Drew. Or is she?!

The Clutch

Clutches vary greatly in size, but they are usually smaller than a regular purse and carried in your hand. They can be classic and sophisticated to bohemian and wild. Party girls adore these types of bags! Think Holly Golightly from Breakfast At Tiffany’s. This fun spirited lady is a minimalist.

The Backpack

Made of many types of cloth as well as leathers, these bags are another great pick for the girl on the go. She’s a dreamer who loves to travel. She’s adventurous and courageous. She’s flexible and can be ready for the next big thing in an instant.

The Bucket Bag

This is my “go to” bag. It holds a good deal, but doesn’t overwhelm a petite figure. A chic yet practical bag. Confident and fashion forward women carry bucket bags.

The Crossbody

Cross body bags can be worn across your body or hung off a shoulder. It’s a versatile bag for the minimalist. Optimistic and practical, this lady likes to keep her treasures close to her.

Have a favorite style bag? Leave me a comment so I can learn your “pursonality”.

Fall’s Arrival: Wear it Now

The days are getting shorter and the nights a little colder. That means Fall has arrived in the northeast.

I was perusing Pinterest for some inspiration for fall outfits when I discovered a plethora of designer ready-to-wear collections in the most magnificent colors!

I can’t wait to hear what you have to say about these!

First is this flowing dress by Chloe. The falling leaves print on a creamy background make this an ideal dress. Dress it up with heels. Or wear it with a turtleneck underneath mimicking the color of the leaves and matching tights for a more casual look.

This next outfit is from Fendi. Neutrals go a long way. Add a pop of color with a russet colored bag and matching calf length boots.

Dressing doesn’t get much easier than this look by Hermes! Match a comfy turtleneck sweater to a plaid skirt. So chic! Add a long pendent necklace and maybe a beret to up the ante.

Animal prints, leopard and snakeskin, were all over the runways. Here is a terrific way to add them to your wardrobe as seen at the Jacquemus show. Love how the colors compliment one another!!!

Celine dresses it down in a streamlined outfit of skinny jeans with longer knee length boots and a girlie blouse. A long duster elevates the look.

Oscar de la Renta paired a bold colored wrapped blouse to a loose fitted plaid trouser. I like this vintage vibe.

I’m a believer in a statement coat. The bolder, the better. Oscar de la Renta featured this beauty on the runway. When choosing a statement coat, look for one with minimal details. Your coat is the focal point so wear it with complimentary colors .

How will you wear fall’s looks?

Trending Now: Snakeskin

I have to admit that at first I was not on board with this trend. I just couldn’t picture myself wearing snakeskin printed clothing. Not that there is anything wrong with it. I am just not that bold.

Instead I started to find more subtle ways to wear this trend. One of my favorite ways to try something I’m not sure I’m going to “love” is via accessories.

There are so many fun ways to incorporate this print into your wardrobe. Think belts, shoes, jewelry, or a scarf.

I found some great pieces in my hunt that I’m excited to share with you like these booties. These are the Howwi bootie I spotted on DSW.com. A great walking shoe at an affordable price point of $49.99.

Howwi bootie

I love handbags! It’s one of the easiest ways to show the world your style. Whether it’s big or small, your bag should represent who you are.

This little crossbody bag is near perfect. Don’t you agree? Classy and playful all rolled into one trendy bag. I spied this little beauty on Target’s website for $21.99!!!

Crossbody bag

This last piece I want to share is a wrap bracelet that I found on one of my favorite shopping sites…Amazon! You can’t go wrong with the price at $7.99.

Wrap Bracelet

Wrap bracelet

Now that you have an idea of some ways to add snakeskin into your own wardrobe, you may be wondering how to style it.

I’ve got you covered girl! This style board is just one way you can add snakeskin into your own outfits. How will you try this trend for fall?

Love it? ✔️ Hate it?✔️ Leave me your thoughts in the comments section. And remember to Style Pretty!

The Return of Flared Jeans

Flared jeans return this fall. I know some of you are squealing with delight while others are shrieking with terror. I’m kind of in the middle.

You don’t have to look like a hippie in flared denim unless that’s the look you are going for. Then by all means, do it with style!

The trick here is fit. That’s right ladies. Try on several different brands because every size 10 is not designed the same way.

The first thing to think about in fit is the waist. Choose a comfortable waistline.

Next is the leg. The leg of your denim should skim the top of your shoe. I know magazines feature glossies of women wearing jeans draping the floor, but do yourself a favor and keep it real. No one wants to wind up in the emergency room.

Style tip: The best look is a snug fit from the thigh to the bottom of your knee.

Width of the flare is also a factor in the fit. A narrow flare looks more natural than a huge bell.

Because flared jeans come into vogue every 10 years or so I wouldn’t invest a huge amount of money in a pair.

Dark denim always looks more professional. Choose a dark pair to wear to work with a patterned top and blazer or long cardigan.

A lighter wash is fun for weekend wear. Grab your favorite denim, add a comfy tee shirt and hooped earrings.

Stores like Old Navy and Target offer affordable clothing. You could even try a second hand store! It’s good for the environment and your wallet!

Style Tip: When buying jeans, make sure to take along a pair of heels with you as well as what you are already wearing. This gives you more options for length and how you plan to wear your flared jeans.

Fashion is for fun. But dress well to impress.

Color Forecast F/W 19/20

So excited about all the new fall colors as revealed by the Pantone Color Institute. I can definitely see these mixed with some of the colors that are currently in my wardrobe.

I found all of these beautiful images on Pinterest.pinterest.com

Loving this romantic Peach Pink! Will look lovely against all skin tones.

Biking Red. A combination of red and brown. Dark brunettes can rock this sultry red.

Sugar Almond. The perfect pumpkin-brown. I have worn this color brown for years. It looks smashing on a golden skin tone.

Paloma. Think the color of soft grey ocean pearls. Dreamy.

Fruit Dove is a fun pop of pink. Wear this one with neutrals.

Bluestone. Powdery blue like a a pair of broken in denim jeans. I predict this one will be a favorite through winter.

Creme de Peach. A feminine neutral.

Eden. A warming earth color. Think of strolling in the park.

Vanilla Custard. A basic everyone will be adding to their wardrobe as it is one of the most wearable colors.

Orange Tiger. Because a girl, or guy, needs a little variety. This bold color is a burst of energy on those chilly days.

This is only a sampling of the gorgeous Fall/Winter colors. Do you have a favorite? Add a comment below to tell me how you will be wearing these colors.

Fall Style

Ahhh! Don’t you love waking up to a brisk fall morning, but by mid day you are sweltering? The changing of the seasons can make dressing a bit frustrating. So what’s a girl to do?

Layers! I can’t stress this enough. I wear them all year, but they are even more important during seasonal changes. They keep you warm in the mornings & cooler nights.

I like to start with a cami beneath my shirt. This is your foundation. Choose a cool cotton. Man made fibers are much easier to wear during warmer days.

Then build by adding a lightweight cardigan sweater. Rayon’s are fabulous and drape wonderfully.

Finally add your bottoms. Anything from jeans to long skirts goes!

Lastly, accessorize! Infinity scarves, shawls & pashminas are all great pieces that add pizazz to an outfit as well as add extra layers of warmth when you need it.

As you can see from the look above, layering is rather simple. This look takes you from a warm day and into the evening.

Style Tip: Monochromatics return for fall. Pick one color, or several similar colors, and build your outfit from there. Monochromatics add height.

I created this look on the Shop Look app. Look for it in your App Store!

Happy Fall!!!🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂

On the Runway…Living Coral

Good morning lovelies!!

Today I want to share some images of Pantone’s Living Coral as it was shown on the runways. Some designers used the color very boldly and others were a little more restrained. Today I am featuring the designs of Elisabetta Franchi and Primavera Estate.

This first photo is one of my favorites. It’s from the spring 2019 Primavera Estate show and it features not only beautiful coral in a gorgeous pleated halter top and blazer but a pair of highwaisted denim cropped jeans complete with a fringed hem and decorated front pockets. So on trend!!

This second look is from the spring 2019 collection of Elisabetta Franchi. Wrap dresses are an essential in your wardrobe as they go from day to evening. Add a camisole below your dress for a modest work look. Style tip: You can take this dress from spring into fall by wearing it with boots.

This show stopping coat dress was featured on the runway of Elisabetta Franchi. Everything about this dress says confidence. High low hems remain prominent this year. This may be a little too risque to wear alone for some. Cigerette/stove pipe style trousers in a neutral color would make it easier to wear.

Etro never disappoints and in 2019 there were many lovely pieces like this printed dress. Perfect for the Bohemian woman!! The ruffled sleeves mimic the tiered skirt. The three quarter length sleeve is wearable on all body types.

Another example of the way Primavera Estate chose to use Living Coral. In shots of color…notice the shoes, bag and belt!! Bold stripes in colors mimicking a run rise paired with neutral colored wide legged capris. The emphasis being a small waist. So chic!

Elisabetta Franchi accented the waistline with a bodice top and semi full pleated skirt. This look exudes femininity. Style tip: A pleated skirt is a great way to minimize fuller hips.

This last look is another from Primavera Estates and one I feel it is the most fun way to wear Living Coral. Anyone can wear this casual chic look. Style tip: Pair a verticle striped skirt (which lengthens you) with a coral tank top or tee shirt. Top it off with a demin jacket & flats.

So now that you have an idea of how the designers showed Living Coral, how will you wear it?

Living Coral…

Previously in the winter of 2018, the color authorities at Pantone announced Living Coral as the color of 2019.

So what’s so special about this vibrant shade of orange? One only needs to look at this bold color to feel energized. It brings a certain lightness with it.

Those at the Color Institute said of Living Coral that it symbolizes

our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits, PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral embodies our desire for playful expression.

Those who know me know what an optimist I am and so I am embracing this beautiful color.

This color may seem intimidating to some, but I believe this warm color will look lovely on all skin types.

Below are some style boards I created to give you some inspiration when choosing Living Coral.

For the Trend Setter . If you are long legged and short waisted, this is a look for you. Think Victoria Beckham. A column of color keeps the eye moving & creates a long silhouette. I chose to pair it with golden yellow accessories.

For the Romantic… I repeated the above color combination. A petite would look stunning in this feminine peplum blouse with bowed & sleeves. Add a swinging pair of shorts & chunky heeled sandals to the mix. Because the top is the showpiece, keep your accessories to a minimum.

If coral is too shocking for you, I would suggest trying it in small doses to see if it’s right for you. The make up industry has really embraced this color featuring new eyeshadow pallets, lipsticks and nail lacquers.

You may also wish to try it in your accessories…a pretty printed scarf, a fun bag, or beaded jewelry. The choice is yours.

What do you think about Living Coral? Would you try it and if so how? Please leave a comment below to share your thoughts.

Denim Trends for 2019

Hello lovely!!

Have you been enjoying 2019 so far? It’s been really exciting for me… learning new things & stepping outside my comfort zone…but that’s another post.

Today I wanted to talk about my favorite denim trends for 2019. Although I adore my skinny jeans & will most likely never give them up, this year jeans are more relaxed & loose fitting. So I will embrace them. I’ve already purchased a boyfriend jean!! ❤

Do you actively hunt for high waisted jeans? Then I have good news to share. High waisted jeans are IN. This is the first time I have tried them & oh my!! No need for shapewear with these babies!

Along with higher waistlines are the return of the flared jeans... a nod to the 70s. Not everyone likes flares, but I always have because they hug your thighs and knees before descending to the floor. Super cool!!

Hemlines get an update this year. You’ll be seeing more fringed ankles on full length and cropped jeans. Distressed hems and unusual hemlines (think let out seams) will be a thing.

And lastly, and certainly my favorite, is embroidery. It has actually been showing up on jeans & shorts the last couple of years, but this year it is said to be BIG. (FYI, I already knew this and have been wearing mine faithfully. )

Are you as excited as I am to try these trends? Or do you already have these trends in your wardrobe? How would/do you style them?

Here’s a style board I made on combyne.

Photo sources: pinterest & combyne

So thankful…

Just because Thanksgiving is over doesn’t mean one should forget all of the blessings in their life.

I’m so thankful this year because I was able to actually step outside of my comfort zone and I opened my own Poshmark shop. You can visit my shop @ debra_stylewise on the app. I haven’t made much money there as I have bought more than I’ve sold (Lol!) . But I am thrilled that I took a chance. Remember my word for the year…courage?…

I am also really excited that I have made some new friends. And I even began a new career in my 50s. Wow!! I’ve also been more dedicated to my yoga practice and that has made me more confident and healthier. That’s a LOT to be thankful for.

So what about you? What are you thankful for? Please let me know in the comment section below.

One last thing I am thankful for are my readers. You all are so lovely and I appreciate you taking time out of your day to read my posts. Thank you.

Much affection,

Debra💋

Chic Fall Outfits

Hey loves!

Sorry I was away for such a very long time. You know how sometimes you have a mental block and before you know it time has completely gotten away from you? Well…That’s me. Lol!

Because I was having a mental block, I headed over to my favorite place to find inspiration, Pinterest. There I found some truly amazing outfits to help you look chic while staying cozy this fall. Without further ado…

The Bardot sweater may never go out of style. Wear it with jeans and boots for a casual afternoon jaunt to the library. What’s better than a cozy evening in with a good book or movie?

Neutrals can go miles in your wardrobe! Although this nicely layered outfit is made up of neutrals, there is a good mix of textures and  whisper pink which helps keep it interesting.  Quick tip: Always wear your sunnies in the fall and winter when the sun is closest to the earth.

A bright fall colored sweater adds pizzazz to basic denim. I like the long tunic style sweaters worn over skinny jeans. Slip on a pair of  flat heeled boots and a fun scarf and it’s casual weekend wear.

Teal is so perfect for any time of the year. This rich tone that marries well with the many shades brown. I like the whimsy of the  peacock feather earrings and plaid scarf  in this set.

Remember that chambray shirt you couldn’t get enough of? It gets new life when worn under a sweater. An unexpected statement necklace in place of a scarf keeps this outfit fresh. *Note the animal print flats*

Loving this nature inspired look. I love long hikes through the woods, especially this time of the year when the leaves are turning their gorgeous colors and softly crunching underfoot. You can take that feeling along with you by pairing a colorful sweater, jeans and a pair of hiking style boots.

Flannels are still hot. Layer them over tees and tanks to keep you cozy. Add skinny jeans with boot socks and leave your shirt untucked or wear high waisted jeans and tie up your flannel.

Lastly, a light sweater in a rich tone worn with jeans, an animal print coat and simple jewelry. So chic!!

There are so many great sets on Pinterest to give you inspiration on how to style your own wardrobe. All of these came from Pinterest and I claim no ownership to them. I will share some of my own style boards in a future post.

Which look is your favorite? Leave me a comment below.

Happy Fall!

Favorite Things

Hello lovelies!!!

Do you remember that song from The Sound of Music 🎶 These Are a Few of my Favorite Things🎵?

Well that inspired this post. I figured it was about time I shared a bit of my favorite things. I hope you enjoy and are inspired to share some of your favorite things as well. With that said, let’s get started…

I am an avid reader. But I think you already know that about me. I adore mysteries especially Diane Vallere’s fashionable mystery series (there are many!!) And novels by Sarah Jio, Lisa Wingate, Karen Kingsbury and Michelle Moran to name a few.

I also enjoy crochet. I taught myself to crochet using a child’s book from the library. Lol! My current passion in crochet is the mandala that has become ever so popular. I haven’t hooked one…yet…

I love nature & taking long walks or hikes in the woods (especially in the crisp fall air). It is one of my happy places and where I feel close to God because He created the earth & all of the creatures in it.

Another one of my favorite places is near water. If I can hear it, my heart is content. A rippling brook or waves crashing. It soothes my soul.

I also enjoy my yoga practice. It is wonderful for flexibility, relieving stress, & getting in touch with your body. It also boosts your self confidence. I practice daily with Sarah Beth Yoga. I have learned how to shut out the noise of life and how to let go of negativity during my practices. It helps me feel well rounded as a person.

I also have some activities I would like to learn such as swing dancing, macrame, how to grow healthy succulents, and glamping with my girl friends.

I hope you enjoyed my little post. What are some of your favorite things? Please share in the comment section below.

Love,

Debra💋

These Boots…

Hey love!

Did the weather finally change where you live? The BEST part of fall to me is pulling on a pair of boots. I just adore wearing boots. There are trendy boots and then there are the good old classics. I lean more towards a classic boot that I can wear season after season. Because really, who has money to waste? Boots are an investment piece.

When shopping for boots, shop smart!  Keep these things in mind.

*They must meet your budget. Whether you shop Neiman Marcus or Marshalls, know your limit. If you feel uncomfortable with the price, chances are they will collect dust in  your closet.

*Don’t buy cheaply made boots. Trust me! You can spot these right off. Cheap hardware, poor stitching, and certain fabrics just scream low quality.

*Look for a boot that fits well. No pinching of the toes or lifting in the heels when you walk. Is it too tight or too loose in the calf?  Think about how you will be wearing them. With boot socks, tights or nylons. All of these factor in the fit of your boot.

*Chose a comfortable heel. Especially important if you will be standing in them all day. Take them for a test drive through the aisle.  Remember this is an investment piece and you will be wearing your boots frequently from fall until spring. Choose wisely.

*And lastly, the style of the boot should mesh with your current wardrobe. This goes without saying. However  I know I am not the only female out there that has spied a boot or shoe that was so stunning but would clearly not fit my style.

My Favorites

This year there are a couple of boot styles on my radar. The classic calf or knee length boot (forever a favorite in footwear) and the new classic, the bootie. I feel these two styles are the most versatile.

The Calf or Knee Length Boot

If you are investing in a boot, this is the one. Unlike the thigh high boots favored in recent years, calf length or knee high boots can be worn with any pant style, from boot cuffs to skinny jeans. Toss them on with a dress or with slacks and a cardigan for work. Dressed up or down, they finish a look.

The Bootie

The bootie is quickly becoming a classic. I think women really started to embrace them when the Chelsea made it’s debut. The bootie has been seen both on the runway as well as on the street featuring  kitten or chunky heels as well as flat. So there is a bootie for every occasion.

Booties can be worn many ways. Pair them with skinny pants and a tee shirt for a casual look. Wear them dresses and skirts for dressy occasions.  And with shorts and a flowy cardigan for an edgy look.

This year’s color choices for boots run the gambit. There are animal prints, plaids, the neutrals and of course the colors of the season. Whatever you favor you are sure to look amazing!

Which boot would you choose? Leave your recommendations in the comments section below.

Inside Chanel

Hello lovely,

Today was a holiday here in the US so this morning I lounged in bed catching up on some of my favorite you tubers.

I feel especially inspired by Inside Chanel. It was a quick video about the iconic jacket that was immediately embraced by the public upon it’s release.

Chanel was definately WAY ahead of her time and designed clothing that women could actually move in. What a visionary! No wonder the public, no… the world, flocked to her unrestrictive frocks.

Just take a look Inside Chanel…The Jacket

A Chanel jacket is one piece I would definately invest in. Or perhaps a good copy.

How about you? As always leave your comments below.

Love,

Debra

The Timeless Dior

Hey doll!!

Have you ever noticed how some designers become overnight success stories then seem to fade out of the spotlight? Kinda like those one hit wonders from the 80s.

One name in fashion has stood the test of time. No matter the original creative genious of Christian Dior or the latest  couturiers. The designs of the house of Dior remain rooted in the Dior tradition.

During the war years resources were scarce. There were limitations on food items and gas,  as well as fabrics and trims for clothing. Even silk stickings were rationed. Women “made due” by refashioning their clothing and drawing  lines up the back of their calves in place of stockings.

All this changed one Victory was declared. Dior saw this as a way to reward women who had been working men’s jobs in factories while their sweethearts and husbands fought the war. Excessive yards of fabric were used and The New Look was born. Gone were the days of rationing.  This new look would highlight a woman’s assets. Busts and waistlines were accentuated.

The original Dior was something of a mystery. A brilliant designer who was surprisingly shy. Perhaps so, but he sure knew how to dress a lady.

Women were well dressed and elegance reigned in each of Dior’s classic beauties.

So much love went into each of this pieces like this sleek dress (above) from the 40’s with an unexpected, draped waistline. This silhouette just proves that a “lady” can still be sexy.

A Look Into the Future

No one can deny the wow factor that John Galliano brought to Dior. It’s as if he channeled the great designer himself to bring Dior’s glamorous style to the modern woman.

When John Galliano resided as head designer in the House of Dior, he brought many unexpected surprises.

But one thing remained, a desire to create beautiful clothes women would adore.

This gown is superb! I can almost imagine how dreamy it would feel on. It is one of my favorites. I love the cowl neckline on a dress.

The First Queen

The first female designer, Maria Grazia Chiuri, now reigns in the House. Stepping right up to the challenge,  she has proved that a woman can do Dior.

Dior will ways be embellished in embroidery, petals, and all things delicate.  It is just the way of couture.

Elegance will never go out of style and neither will Dior.

Fall nails featuring Essie

Hey dolls!

This weekend I went school clothes shopping with my niece and sister. Wow! I forgot how hard that was. But we had fun. Which brings me to my next point. Back to school means Fall. Do you remember the smell of the first day of school? That crisp earthy smell? Close your eyes & take it in.

I love fall.  It takes second place in my favorite seasons. The colors, sights and smells. Not to mention wearing snuggly clothes. Scarves are my favorite fall/winter accessory.

Since we’ve been featuring all things fall as of late, I wanted to share some dazzling nail polishes with you to help inspire your fall wardrobe.

FALL Color Guide

21fdc7491b2b58ac2003df1780db2896

Hello dolls,

As the temps heat up, up, up along with the humidity, my thoughts are drifting towards cooler days. Which  brings my attention to what I will be wearing and what colors will be showing for fall  and winter of 2018. We definately need to know how to work them into our trusty favorites to keep our look fresh.

I always look to Pantone to guide me in my research and as usual I was not disappointed.

The fall/winter picks are an array of visually appealing colors. They blend well in patterns and prints but can also stand alone.

What an amazing print!

HOW TO  wearing and or blend new colors into your wardrobe . Choose a solid as your base…such as the bright poppy for fall. Consider pairing it in small doses (say jewelry) or go bold as in a sweater. Now, add another of the fall colors…say an almond buff colored pant.  You may add more color or stop here.  I would add a  scarf in these two colors to wear at my neck. You’ve instantly created a fresh look for fall.

If you are  not quite that daring in your wardrobe, I recommend choosing just one of these colors to add a statement such as ceylon yellow or meerkat colored bag.

ceylon yellow bag

Why not try wearing martini olive as a neutral like this great top from Liligal.com? Wear it with dark washed denim and your favorite brown boots. Add pops of color  via accessories in russet orange and limelight. Very earthy.

205806_P_15299948472951

Trendy girls will go wild and add pops of color to their wardrobes like a pair of russet orange slacks. The key here is to pair it with something to tone it down like a graphic tee for hanging out with friends.

354ccb997d0d16bcb578a0b18c244132

If you like to play around with colors but don’t want to commit to them, a scarf in fall’s colors are always a safe bet. Patterns in paisley, floral, and strips are always spot on.

How will you incorporate these colors in your wardrobe. Drop a comment below lovelies.

#shop small business

469057cda4c71e08eeb66a0a4471f4bf--support-small-business-mom-and

Hey babes!

Do you shop small? What I mean is do you shop in small businesses. I support many small businesses.

Here are some reasons I support small  businesses.

*Small businesses are often locally owned (giving back to my community makes me feel good) or an online shop.  These folks are entrepreneurs living their dream.

*Small businesses are all about growing their customer base so I know I will get great customer service.  They appreciate their customers and will typically offer special discounts.

*I like finding items that can’t be found in the mall or other stores.  Finding something truly unique or made to order sets me apart from following the crowd.

*Cosmetic and beauty products made in smaller batches means my product won’t spoil before I can finish using it.

*Some small businesses such as vintage clothing and thrift boutiques are popping up all over the internet.  I love them because I believe in reusing what we can and shopping these types of stores helps keep at least a wee bit of fabrics from being tossed into  landfills.

So that being said where DO I shop? I frequent a few of these and a couple are on my radar.

Margarita Bloom

Regina from Margarita Bloom is just the sweetest girl you will ever meet. She represents the brand that manufactures natural beauty products such as soaps,  lotions,  bath salts,  lipsticks,  etc.  She will work with you and personalize your scent.  Go treat yourself and tell her I sent you.

Racked Vintage

My girl friend Janice is the owner/ curator of this vintage wonderland. I seriously can’t look at her shop without swooning.  She’s been in  the business for years and is a true professional.  If you dream of cupcake dresses from the 50s , look no further than Racked Vintage.

Salt Light Company

I recently discovered this shop when I was looking for an organic goat milk lotion for my face.  Oh my goodness! The cream I bought is amazing! I highly recommend giving  this family owned business a try. They produce all their body products from nature.  Jessica is very prompt and cordial and best of all this small business is centered on Christ.

PearlAndIvyHandmade

Robyn is the creative genius behind this gorgeous shop. Each hand crafted piece is truly a work of art. If you want one  of a kind jewelry,  you will certainly not be disappointed.  Wait until you see the selection!!

Hollis Eve Company

Remember this fabulous thrift  company made up of twin sisters that I recently interviewed?! See post Here

They hunt for treasures everywhere and have many platforms to shop from.  From depop to Facebook, you will get your fix of affordable wearables.

The Gilded Girl

This is a local Pittsburgh beauty boutique.  The owner is a dream.  I actually came across her via instagram and quickly started following her. I love that she provides many services such as private parties, a huge assortment of natural beauty products and perfumes,  and personal customer care.

So there are my top picks of small businesses that I choose to support.  Each one is exceeds my expectations and the entrepreneurs are all delightful women.  Please do visit them. And if you have a favorite small business you support , please share in the comments section below.

Love,

Debra
